Stop me if you’ve heard this riddle: What do we know if we see a turtle on a fencepost? Answer: We know he didn’t get there by himself.
That’s how it is with people. In Jim Collin’s bestselling book, “Good To Great,” he describes the leader of the company who takes it from so-so to outstanding. He’s the one who is always looking out the window pointing to all the folks who made the company exemplary. The also-ran CEOs are those who are always looking in the mirror pointing out how outstanding they are.
The humble apostle Paul, who accomplished so much and wrote half the New Testament by the inspiration of God, pointed through the “window” of God’s Word many times. He lifted up the names of all the people who helped him and helped him make the name of Jesus known throughout the world. Over 100 times in his letters and the book of Acts he lists those folks by name with great affection, adulation and appreciation
Maybe Paul had seen a turtle on a fence post.
Are you looking in the mirror or out the window?
