You’ve heard a ton of these reflections on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Here are mine.
REMEMBER...not to stir up hatred or revenge, for God reassures us: “’It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ the Lord” (Romans 12:19). But remember to pray for those in authority (I Tim 2; Rom 13) and even for our enemies...for their conversion, for a change of heart toward peace and goodwill.
RECOGNIZE the difference between extremists and devout followers in every religion. The man who just committed the atrocious terrorist act in Sweden says he’s a follower of Jesus. Hardly. Jesus would NEVER condone his actions. So how do we like it when people associate this kind of behavior with Christianity? So don’t do this toward other religions.
RESIST the “hatred, revenge, violence” endless, destructive cycle. This downward spiral can only be broken by forgiveness (Rom 12:12-18). Hard, but true. Possible, only with God’s power in us (Romans 5:5).
RECOMMIT to seek peace and pursue it: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Rom 12:18; Hebrews 12:14)
REVIVAL. May we simply do our part to bring true spiritual revival to our nation, our community, our homes. Our part is prayer and holy living (obedience, love & good deeds); knowing God will do His part.
