I don’t like the new nickname Denver Bronco’s quarterback Tim Tebow has acquired. He’s been given this moniker for the miracles he’s performed since he took over as quarterback for the 1 and 4 Denver Broncos. Many were come-from-behind wins. They are now 8 and 5 and legitimate playoff contenders.
These numbers are well-known. Lesser known are the numbers Tebow wore in his eyeblack while winning the Heisman trophy and two national championships in college.
We haven’t seen those numbers sported at sporting events for a long time when the only guy displaying them wore a rainbow wig. Maybe that’s why those numbers were googled so much when Tebow was last seen wearing them.
A clue to these numbers and his nickname--Tebow is a committed Christian. Tim not only leads teams on the football field, he leads preaching teams into prisons. He changed the whole culture of his Florida campus while in college by promoting missions trips to developing countries. Even his OSU-bound coach went on such a trip.
Before Tim was born doctors begged Tim’s mother, Pam, to abort him. She had been given drugs to counter her amoebic dysentery not knowing she was pregnant, drugs known to almost universally cause irreversible damage to fetuses. She refused, trusting God for the outcome.
All the while Tim’s father prayed, not only for a healthy son, but that God would make him a preacher. God answered those prayers. But the “Mile-High Messiah” won’t be seen wearing robes, only pads and jerseys--his congregation numbering millions.
Back when Tim was born, strong and healthy, but unknown, the vast majority of our country knew what the numbers I’m talking about above meant. So why don’t they now?
Good question for the church in America. The letter/number combination boldly printed under Tim’s eyes that so many didn’t understand were John 3:16.
Go figure! Or go google it.
Better yet—wear it, or share it.
And remember, there is only ONE Messiah, and His name is Jesus: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God (--Peter, Matthew 16:16). You will call His name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
TT knows there is only one Messiah, and shows it by regularly bowing at His feet. He does it so often the world copies and calls it “TeBOWing.”
That first Christmas wise men bowed before Jesus. They still do, along with some pretty fine athletes.
