"HONORING OUR FATHERS (AND MOTHERS)"
by Pastor Rick Sams

A study done by Haitao Wang of UCLA found that parents who were close to their kids were least likely to become depressed or disabled in their later years. It also showed that aging parents who relate closely with their middle-aged children have their survival rates extended. This evidence suggests that elderly people, when they feel loved, actually produce hormones that strengthen their immune systems.
I think it strangely funny when social scientists come out with pronouncements that God has told us in His Word for millennia, and think they've made groundbreaking new discoveries.
Nearly 4000 years ago God instructed us to: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you…For I command you to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase…" (Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 30:15).
This fifth of the Ten Commandments not only promises long life for the children, but also for the parents.
This just may be the way to get the Ten [controversial] Commandments posted again in our public places: let's spend millions of our tax dollars to prove and publish them, saying they are the results of expensive, extensive "studies."
