BIG BROTHER (AND ?) IS WATCHING
by Pastor Rick Sams

Technology is clearly a two-edged sword as many of us have learned the hard way. Ubiquitous security cameras have cracked some criminal cases, but the laws protecting us from them barely cover us in public restrooms (pun intended).

How many of you have received those sterile envelopes in the mail containing a ticket for running a red light that was also armed with a camera? Were you smiling for the camera? What did your face look like when you opened that letter?

Police, and soon parents, can trace where you’ve been from “pings” your cell phone continually sends to its towers.

Facebook is contemplating using facial recognition technology allowing its users to upload photos taken of random strangers. Facebook would then give you the names of the folks you surreptiously snapped if that person was among its 200 million members.

Some iPhone apps allow retailers to download sale info and coupons directly to your phone the moment you walk in their store. But that also means “they” know where you are. And are “they” friendly?

Whoever is capable of hacking into that system can also get into all the data on your cell phone. Hackers are getting more skilled and brazen all the time. There’s now a website where hackers can earn points for breaking into sites based on how popular the site and how sophisticated their security (rankmyhack.com). *

  T.M.I.

I only want One Person to have this kind of information about me. My Heavenly Father is the only one who loves me and wants to do me good with that intimate information.

The psalmist took comfort in the complete knowledge God had of him: “O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it COMPLETELY, O Lord…such knowledge is too WONDERFUL for me…” (Psalm 139:1-6, emphasis mine).

This writer was only awed by God’s knowledge of him.

God’s x-ray vision even sees into our soul: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me into the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24).

Our omniscient observing God is monitoring us 24/7 only to protect, provide, enrich and enlarge our lives.
