YOU ARE NEVER ALONE
By Pastor Rick Sams
Occasionally a promise from Scripture springs right off the
page into my pea-brain. This happened last week. The promise was:
"Never alone. It came at a time I was feeling like the weight of the
world, or at least my little family, rested squarely on my shoulders. It
was too heavy. I needed to know I had help and was never
alone.
Dont get me wrong. My dear wife and others were doing all
they could to share the load. But it was too much for all of us. We
all needed that promise.
And God spoke: "You are never alone. "I am
with you and will watch over you wherever you go… (Genesis
28:15)
"I will never leave you. Never will I forsake you
(Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5)
"And surely I will be with you always,
to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
Isnt that what you
need what you need to hear from the One who made you and loves you with an
everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3)? Especially when you are trying to move a
mountain thats way too big? Maybe that "mountain is a challenging
co-worker or neighbor. Youd like to show him love, but you can barely
resist showing him the door.
It could be a wayward child…or spouse.
Maybe your health has hit the wall, and keeping one foot in front of the other
is all you can manage.
Fine. Manage that. And dont miss
seeing the other set of footprints in the sand right beside yours, referring to
the classic, much-quoted poem.
Those footprints are much bigger than yours,
and they belong to someone who sees a LOT farther ahead.
You are never
alone.
Just when I was starting to "get it, God plunked another
promise down to disturb the peace: "Never your own. Ill try to unpack
that one next week as we head into the craziness of the Christmas shopping,
since it has to do with money.
