SNOW DAY CANCELLATIONS AND
WORSHIP
by Pastor Rick Sams
Wow! I heard weve hit some snowfall standards we
havent seen since 77, the year we decided to pack up and move in
January. Now that was some fun! (NOT!)
The procedure we have
in place for snow cancellations at our church worked pretty well. A few
slogged through the snow to church and found "cancelled signs on the door
Sorry about that.
Our city Safety Service Director made our decision to
cancel much easier by telling people on the front page of the 3/8 Review to stay
off the streets all weekend unless travel was absolutely necessary. We
submit to our governing authorities unless they tell us to do something contrary
to Gods Word (Rom 13; Ac 5:29).
Speaking of Gods Word, how many times
do the Psalm writers tell us of their joy and desire to worship the Lord in the
sanctuary: "One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell
in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the
Lord and to seek him in his temple (Psalms 27:4; 22:22, 25; 26:8, 12;
34:3; 35:14, 18; 40:9-10; 55:14; 68:26; 84:1-4; 89:5; 109:30; 111:1; 122:1;
134:2; 149:1;
150:1).
You may have had some wonderful times of
worship alone or at home with the fam. Fantastic! Do this
everyday. But the Bible says in precept, principle and the practice of
Jesus that we are to worship TOGETHER. In Luke 4:16 we see Him going to
the synagogue "as was His CUSTOM. Youll never find God on the golf course
like you can find Him in the sanctuary. I challenge you to show me one
place the Bible where His created world shows His sacrifice, faithfulness and
love like the written and spoken Word of God does.
These are just a few
of the many reasons were told: "Let us not give up meeting together, as some
are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one anotherand all the more as
you see the Day approaching…But encourage one another daily, as long as it is
called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sins deceitfulness
(Hebrews 10:25; 3:13). See you this Sunday…in
church!
