NEGLECTING NATIONAL
HOLIDAYS
by Pastor Rick Sams
In one area of Africa where Christianity is rapidly
spreading, converts who are zealous about their daily devotions find a secluded
spot in the wild thickets. There they pour out their hearts to God in prayer.
After a time the spots can become well-worn AND well-known. So those personal
paths make one's prayer life "public.
If someone begins to ignore his daily prayer time, it is
soon known by others. Believers then gently and lovingly remind those in
neglect: "The grass grows on your path."
Do you think that anyone, sensing their prayer passion is
cooling, goes out and stomps down the grass on their path just to keep up the
appearance of prayer?
Do
you think any President has proclaimed the first Thursday in May as The National
Day Of Prayer just to keep up appearances that we have a national prayer path?
Do you think small
attendance at these events is any indicator that national appearances are the
least of our worries?
Arent we really saying to the Lord "I am strong, and You
are weak when we fail to pray, and just the opposite when we do?
Dont you think with all
the crises were facing as a nation: war, the economy, and energy shortages, we
ought to have a well-worn path?
Is the grass growing on your path?
What did YOU do May 1, the National Day Of
Prayer?
