Come with a friend or come alone and make new friends. We are all working on getting "recovered" from life's hurts, habits and hang-ups.

The life issues addressed are: anger, forgiveness, courage, substance abuse, physical, mental, sexual, financial abuse, codependence, addictions (drug, sex, food, shopping, gambling).

There is a group for newcomers and there are always new small groups starting based on need and available leaders. Some topic examples are: Women's Health Recovery, Divorce Recovery, and Griefshare.

Griefshare is offered a couple times a year. This is a 13-week program for those who have lost a loved one and want to work through their grief.

Life Hurts God Heals (LHGH) is a 13-week program created specifically for teenagers ages 12-22 who have experienced pain or addiction including: alcohol, drugs, sex, pornography issues, self-abuse issues (cutting), eating disorders, troubled family dynamics (divorce, separation), suicide issues, grief, etc. All over the country hundreds of students have gone through this 8-step study leaving many encouraged and changed.

LHGH is a similar program to and comes under the recovery umbrella of the 12-step called Celebrate Recovery and is a small group biblical study providing lifelong tools to help students heal from their hurt, written by John Baker, Doug Fields, and Megan Hutchinson (www.simplyyouthministry.com).

See the Weekly Bulletin to see if this class is meeting at this time.

Reconciliation Ministries - When people experience conflict, the results are painful. We, at Alliance Friends Church, want to embrace a culture of peace, where Christians live out the Gospel in their relationships and where the belssing of peace follow. Through this ministry, trained conciliators assist people in conflict, indivicuals or groups, with reconciliation and resolution through confidential coaching, mediation, and/or arbitration according to Biblical principles vs going to court or using secular mediation (see I Corinthians 6). Click here for testimonies. If you would like to attend a training session Click here for information.

To request an initial conversation with a conciliator, contact Connie Bancroft or Jerry Hart either by email or by calling the church office at 330-823-4210. They will thoroughly explain the process and assist through confidential dialogue.

When appropriate, overseers will be involved according to Faith & Practice #523

"Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and mutual edification." Romans 14:19 (NIV)

Professional Christian Counselors who charge 90 - $120/ hr. are on a list our office staff gives out when people want that. Give them a call at 823-4210. Note: there is a difference between “Christians who counsel” and “Christian  counseling.” The former will only take clients into the Bible or distinctly Christian answers IF the client wants to go there or precedes them there. Christian counselors actually initiate spiritual and biblical answers to their problems.

If you want secular counseling, that is available on a sliding scale based on income, through what is called Community Services-mental health division or Trillium located at Fernwood and State.

A Note From Pastor Rick toward your healing in Jesus:
I believe healing that people seek in one-on-one counseling best happens "in community," i.e. in small  groups. So we push small group involvement for lasting healing. Accountability groups are one of the best options here (“iron sharpening iron,” Proverbs 27:17), sort of like Promise Keeper groups, which just go over ten or more key questions. These groups are highly reproducible, stay small (so people can't "hide" in them) and easy to lead.
